JOY'S JOURNEY There are many reasons I chose to become an educator and writer instead of becoming a clinical physician. First and foremost, I never wanted the driven lifestyle that most clinical physicians are required to live. Second, I never really felt like I fit in with my professional peers -- I was often criticized for being too lighthearted and playful in serious situations, and was often reprimanded for being too emotionally attached and involved with my patients and their families, even in pediatrics. Third, I found that everything in medicine seemed to require a physician to cause the patient pain, embarrassment or both. As I began to understand my brain's naturally wiring (ENFP), I also finally understood that while my natural personality gave me good bedside manner, it made it very difficult for me to generate objective and detailed lists of symptoms, disease, treatments, and drug side effects in my head. I would have had to spend most of my day using my weakest Myers-Briggs® functions. One of the primary reasons I wrote this book was to help the other people who have trouble generating lists in their head. So, if you are better at recognizing the right answer than generating it, this book is for you. If you are good at coming up with lists, then I invite you to come up with your own activities and together we can all create a sequel to this book!
