LET YOUR JOY TAKE FLIGHT

CATEGORY

        Meditation Game

DESCRIPTION

Go fly a kite, or use one to decorate a wall.

INSTRUCTIONS

Kites often represent colorful, light-hearted fun. By adding your own message to the body or tail of the kite, you can playfully ask the Universe for assistance, or send it your gratitude. Simply write or paint messages on the kite itself, or write them on strips of fabric tied to the tail of the kite.

Box and sled style kites are relatively easy to make, in spite of how detailed and complex the instructions seem at first glance. There are many styles, each suited for a particular type of wind. If you search the internet using the terms "make your own" and "kite", you'll find all sorts of ideas and instructions for making your own kite. Don't forget to add your own string of ideas to your kite.

JOY'S JOURNEY

One of my fondest childhood memories is that of my unsuccessful efforts to fly a kite. My best friend from grade school had a deep back yard -- one long enough that her dad could run and get a kite to loft into the air. She and I spent an entire afternoon trying to get a kite to stay up. I say "try" because we never succeed. We had a lot of fun, though, because we hadn't yet learned how to beat ourselves up when we failed.

I love watching people fly their kites on the beach, because it reminds me of great it feels to try something new without the fear of failing.

Strong people are made by opposition
like kites that go up against the wind.
Frank Harris

Don't ignore the small things --
the kite flies because of its tail.
Hawaiian Proverb

Imagination is the highest kite that one can fly.
