MAGIC MUCK

CATEGORY

        Meditation Game

DESCRIPTION

Use a mixture of cornstarch and water to explore how you move through life.

INSTRUCTIONS

Grab a mixing bowl and mix two generous cups of corn starch with a scant cup of water. Stir very slowly and gently, then stir rapidly. Pull the spoon out quickly, then put it back in and pull it out slowly. Poke your finger into the mixture, then simply rest your finger gently on top of the mixture, and let it slowly sink into the mixture. Now, pull your finger out quickly, then slowly. Gently tilt the bowl and pour the mixture from one bowl to another. Stick your finger in the flow and watch what happens. Pick up a clump of the mixture and hold it in your hand. Squeeze it firmly, then relax your grip. Put a penny on top of the mixture, and watch it for awhile, then put a cork on top of the mixture and continue to watch both items. Now sit down and write about what you saw and experienced. Describe what happened with the mixture, and how it might parallel the way you move through your life.

JOY'S JOURNEY

Many of us wish life came with written instructions, but it doesn't. Even if it did, and we chose to follow them, we are likely end up someplace quite different from what we hoped or expected.

We live so much of our lives based on fear, especially the fear of making or admitting mistakes. We often don't trust our ability to handle the twists and turns, or the ups and downs of life. Some of us take our fears to fortune tellers, astrologers, psychics, and prayer, asking for a glimpse of the future. We want to be able to brace ourselves, or choose a different ride. Often, we aren't afraid of what will happen while we are lost; we are afraid we won't be able to find our way back again. Mistakes are really just opportunities to change direction. Just like airplanes that use auto-pilot devices, we can be "off course" ninety percent of the time and still get where we want to go, if we simply repeatedly recognize and correct the mistakes that take us off-course.

Life actually does come with directions and a built in compass. Our passions point us the right way, and if we listen to our spirit, it will give us directions on how to get there. Use this activity to remind yourself, that even when you have directions and follow them, things don't always happen as you expect. Use the other activities to help you discover your passion and hear your spirit's step-by-step directions of how to get to get there. Enjoy your off course time as scenic detours -- trust that your spirit will redirect you back on course if you are willing to recognize and redirect your course. The sooner you recognize and accept that you are off course, the sooner you can find your way back.

QUOTES

You have to be like the pebble in the stream,
keeping the grain and rolling along
without being dissolved or dissolving anything else.
Joseph Joubert

This life is a test. It is only a test. If it had been an actual life,
you would have received further instructions
on where to go and what to do.
