A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME

CATEGORY

        Mindful Meditation

DESCRIPTION

Explore the art and science of aromatherapy.

INSTRUCTIONS

Read the chapter on AROMATHERAPY under ANCIENT PRACTICES, then fill your home with a variety of aromatic treats. Make your own herbal sachets, mix up a bowl of dried crushed leaves & flowers, buy some scented candles, and make your own bath salts, bath and massage oils and body lotions and shampoos. The general recipe is one drop of essential oil to one teaspoon of oil. There are hundreds of aromatherapy recipes on the web and in books. Use them to access your spirit or simply for some hedonistic pleasure.
JOY'S JOURNEY

Aromatherapy is the ancient practice I use most often. I own an aromatherapy diffuser for my home and my car, and even had one in my office cubicle during my Corporate America days. My home is littered with aromatherapy candles, and my bathroom is filled with a variety of aromatic body washes and lotions.

I use aromatherapy in two ways. One, to match the mood I'm already experiencing, and two, to help me shift from one mood into another. I often keep a mixture of citrus and rosewood near my computer while I write, and a mixture of lavender and chamomile near my bed at night. Occasionally, I'll look up the symbolism of an essential oil, but mostly I just sniff my row of bottles and see which one I want at that moment.
