Brief Summary

Dr. Joy Koenig is board-certified in Preventive Medicine. In addition to her conventional medical school and public health training, she completed Harvard's clinical training in Mind Body and Behavioral Medicine and is qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.. She has formal training in a variety of complementary health techniques, including therapeutic massage, intuitive hands-on techniques, and meditation/guided visualization. As a former CDC/FDA investigator, she does not support the use of unproven substances or health devices such as magnets, brain wave machines, crystals, herbs, vitamins taken in megadose quantities, and other unnatural uses of "natural" substances.

She became convinced of the strong link between our thoughts / emotions and physical health through her experiences in massage therapy school (1992) and becoming a Reiki Master. She resigned her position in the U.S. Public Health Service shortly after her health administrator position was eliminated, and solely began promoting healthy lifestyle approaches.

Teaching optimism and personality type concepts (O.P.T.) were the cornerstones of her primary preventive medicine programs, until she realized that most people are not able to make effective, long-term changes in their exercise and eating habits until they manage their stress, and are happy in at least one of two key life areas -- work/mission or intimate partnership.

Programs now primarily focus on personal growth and development. Dr. Koenig teaches people how to live their dreams through recognizing their self-worth, listening to their Inner voice, harnessing the powers of belief and intention, and finding joy in each and every day. She's a Myers Briggs ENFP who loves helping people take the road less traveled -- first inward, then upward and outward. She does not belong to nor follow any specific religious doctrine; instead, she focuses on the threads that weave all the world's religion's together such as Universal love, prayer, and a life of service.

She is passionate about the water, and enjoys a variety of recreational sports, playing piano, baking desserts, making quilts and hand crafted items such as crewel and counted cross stitch designs. She also designs all her own web sites, and occasionally designs web sites for others. Past personal accomplishments include finishing four marathons (Columbus, Silicon Valley, Napa Valley, Big Sur), participating in many sprint and international distance triathlons, and completing the Vineman ironman distance triathon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). She loves photographing nature, and won an Honorable Mention in a juried art show for one of her photographs: Joy's Nature Photography.
