MYERS-BRIGGS PERSONALITY TYPE

M B Spell Check™ - External / Internal

EXTERNAL or INTERNAL
Which is the source of your PERSONAL ENERGY?

The E/I axis is easy to misread because we are prone to use the lay language definitions of "extrovert" (social) and "introvert" (socially challenged). It is one of the easier categories to discern in others, and is the one that becomes the most obvious to others at an early age -- toddlers can often be accurately sorted into "E" or "I" just by watching them.

The E/I axis is not about how much value you place on either world -- people who get energy from the external world may love being alone because the easiest way for them to relax is to seclude themselves to turn off the input. People who get energy from their internal world may love being the center of attention, spending time with friends and loved ones -- it just takes them energy to do this. Many "Es" enjoy reading, playing computer games, and taking walks alone. Many "Is" enjoy going to parties, public speaking and belonging to clubs. For instance, as an ENFP, I love the world of ideas. However, what really winds me up is the opportunity put my ideas out into the world, not contemplate them within my own head.

When selecting the category below that most accurately describes you, pay less attention to what you do and what you value, and more attention to whether the items in the list (1) describe you; and (2) would "charge your batteries". To help you focus on the Myers Briggs definitions instead of lay definitions, I use the term "External" and "Internal" instead of "Extrovert" and "Introvert".

Think back to what you got praised or scolded for as a child, and that often leads you to your natural brain wiring. The script will still score your checklist if you skip questions, but unanswered questions will count as if you answered as an INTROVERT, and your score will have no meaning.

   YOUR ( E / I ) SCORE is

This number does NOT indicate how much of an Introvert or Extrovert you are -- it tells you how CERTAIN you are that you get your personal energy from the Internal World or the External World.

If your precentage is between 0 - 50%, the "sorting hat" classifies you as an INTROVERT.
If your percentage is 51 - 100%, the "sorting hat" classifies you as an EXTROVERT.

Write down this letterE or I ), and the percentage, then continue on to the S / N checklist.
