MYERS-BRIGGS PERSONALITY TYPE

M B Spell Check™ - Feeling / Thinking

VALUES or LOGIC
How do you JUDGE?

Judging means how do you make decisions, come to conclusions, or do assessments? There are two types of judging, both of which are rational and sensible. A preference for making decisions primarily using subjective information and personal values is called Feeling (emotions often surface during the process). A preference for making decisions primarily using objective data and logic is called Thinking. It is important to understand that "Feelers" do not make decisions based on emotions; their emotions are simply much more visible during the decision making process compared to "Thinkers".

Some words of caution for this category:

  1. Most people who go into medicine or health care do so to help people. This isn't an "F" nor a "T" trait. How you want to help people is the defining characteristic between "T" and "F".

As an over generalization, "F" types generally want to be in relationship with others -- mentoring, inspiring, caretaking, advocating, and "T" types usually focus on systems, products and procedures that support people -- inventing, designing, strategizing, monitoring, problem solving.

It's not surprising to me that "F" types predominate in psychiatry and obstetrics, and "T" types predominate in surgery and pathology. Some of the unequal gender distribution in medical specialties is explained by personality type - in the general population 65% of men are "T" types and 65% of women are "F" types.

  2. "T" types highly value competance, especially "NT" types. If having strong people skills is something you value, and, therefore want or have developed competence with these skills, you may make choices below based on that value rather than on your natural wiring.

Again, think back to what you got praised or scolded for as a child, and that often leads you to your natural brain wiring. The script will still score your checklist if you skip questions, but unanswered questions will count as if you answered as an THINKER, and your score will not mean anything.

   YOUR ( F / T ) SCORE is

This number does NOT indicate how much of a Feeler or Thinker you are -- it tells you how CERTAIN you are that you primarily make logical, data based or value based decisions.

If your precentage is between 0 - 50%, the "sorting hat" classifies you as an THINKING type.
If your percentage is 51 - 100%, the "sorting hat" classifies you as an FEELING.

Write down this letterF or T ), and the percentage, then continue on to the J / P checklist.
