What happens when we resist change rather than embrace it? The image that comes to my mind is the ancient practice of Chinese foot binding. Our thoughts and beliefs about the situation are the restricting bands, and our behaviors are the growing foot -- adapting to the new environment in the best way it knows how, but without much thought to how these new behaviors are going to impact our ability to get where we want to go in the future. We end up distorted forms of our true selves, limping through life, sometimes painfully. Release the binding thoughts, and you stop distorting who you really are - a loving, caring peaceful being with an internally wired sense of purpose for being here. No matter how much you've changed since arriving on the planet, or how off course you might have taken yourself, that purpose is inside you, waiting patiently for you to come and get it, just like a lost child in a busy mall.
