Short Descriptions: "Theme is composing, using whatever is at hand to get a harmonious, aesthetic result. Talents lie in combining, varying and improvising, frequently in the arts but also in business and elsewhere. With their senses keenly tuned in they become totally absorbed in the action of the moment, finding just what fits the situation or the composition. Thrive on having the freedom to vary what they do until they get just the right effect. Take action to help others and demonstrate values. Kind and sensitive to the suffering of others."3 "Retiring, quiet, sensitive, kind, and modest about their abilities. Shun disagreements; do not force their opinions or values on others. Usually do not care to lead but are often loyal followers. Often relaxed about getting things done, because they enjoy the moment and do not want to spoil it by undue haste or exertion." 4 "ISFPs take their energy from the inner world of thoughts and ideas. They prefer dealing with facts and people, and making decisions on the basis of personal values. They are adaptable (up to a point), quiet and friendly. They are interested in people, enjoying their company preferably on an individual basis or in small numbers. They take a caring and sensitive approach to helping others. They enjoy the present, and tends to dislike confrontation and conflict. They usually acts as a very supportive member of a team. "For ISFPs the dominant quality in their lives is a deep-felt caring for living things, combined with a quietly playful and sometimes adventurous approach to life and all its experiences. ISFPs typically show their caring in very practical ways, since they often prefer action to words. Their warmth and concern are generally not expressed openly, and what people often first encounter with ISFPs is their quiet adaptability, realism, and "free spirit" spontaneity."6 "ISFPs direct their energy towards the inner world of thoughts and emotions. They give importance to particular beliefs or opinions, particularly those that relate to people that they know and current experiences. They tend to take a caring and sensitive approach to others."7 "The theme is inspiration. They are perceptive of others' motives and fascinated by the relationships around them. Enthusiastic, charming and interesting. Naturally curious. Know everyone & everything going on. Imaginative."8 "Gentle, soft-spoken, and modest. Relaxed, easygoing, and accommodating. Unassuming and not terribly assertive. Fun loving, caring, and sensitive. Tips for communicating with ISFP: Avoid confrontations! Be cooperative and gentle. Stress the practical ways they can be of assistance to others. Make projects fun - enjoy the moment with them." 9 The Negative Side of ISFP "One of your problems is a lack of foresight. When undertaking a project you are not always able to accurately assess its future potential and therefore you often expect to see a return in the short term. Where projects are concerned, you also have a tendency to confuse what you wish to see with what is actually there, so others may think you are not a serious person. You do not like officialdom and formality, instead you prefer to deal with people in an informal way. Your major problem is a lack of motivation and the ability to push yourself when it comes to work matters, especially where uninteresting yet essential tasks are involved. Sometimes you make promises that you cannot keep." 10 ISFP Under STRESS "ISFPs can be over-accepting of others and need to be more skeptical at times. Their need to please everyone makes them reluctant to critique any one but themselves. This excessive desire to trust others makes them targets for hurt feelings and disadvantaged relationships. Long-range planning and adherence to policies can be their downfall. When the freedom to act on their instincts is limited, ISFPs become bored, restless, and passively defiant. They are skilled at seeming to comply with regulations while annoying those who cause them distress. "Under great stress, ISFPs can become uncharacteristically critical of themselves and others, verbalizing harsh and negative judgments."12 Stress Management for ISFP (Feeding the Fourth) Do activities that require you apply logic and order, or ask, "What's wrong with this? How can I perfect it?" in an objective, meditative manner, such as One, Two, Three, Four... | |||
