Dr. Joy's Reiki Sessions
Dr. Joy does her Reiki sessions with a peaceful intent. Since she is an intuitive healer as well as a Reiki Master, she works with other energies in addition to Reiki energy to help clients reach and maintain a peaceful yet inspiring space -- a mental and spiritual frame of mind where they can find inner peace, and reconnect with the joy in their lives.
One of the wonderful aspects of Reiki energy is that the Practitioner does not "direct" or "send" the energy. Reiki energy automatically goes where the receiver (client) pulls it, and automatically flows into the areas that most benefit the client. If it is in the highest and best interest of the client, the energy will also automatically correct imbalances, deficits and blocks present in the person's energy field.
By completely trusting this aspect of Reiki, Dr. Joy has the freedom to focus on the bright areas in a client's energy, and assist clients with seeing their gifts and strengths, rather than focusing on what may be perceived by others as something that needs to be "fixed" (The Pots). This loving, nurturing intent helps create a space for clients to more consciously see, acknowledge, and appreciate the positive qualities and situations in their lives, while the Reiki energy is unconsciously working on balancing spiritual energy in the background.
The result is that clients finish a session feeling relaxed, peaceful and connected with their Higher Power and Higher Self, rather than feeling drained from focusing on perceived or real issues or problems.
Dr. Joy's Reiki Path and Credentials
"I am probably the most surprised of all, that I answered a calling to do hands-on spiritual health work as part of my living. I began actively conducting scientific research when I was age nineteen, and have worked as a scientific investigator with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after completing medical school at Ohio State University College of Medicine (1985), and my Masters of Science in Preventive Medicine (1988). However, shortly after my sister died at age 29, I found myself in massage therapy school, where I began learning about "issues in the tissues," and the role of mental/emotional stress on the physical body. During my short time at Bancroft School of Massage Therapy, I was introduced to Reiki, and many other holistic modalities. I was drawn to Reiki because I loved the idea of using Universal Love to help people become both happier and healthier. After all, so much of what physicians do is painful, embarrassing or both.
I became a Reiki Master at age 33 (Reiki I, II and III attunements and all training done by Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master Priscilla Gainor, Duxbury, Massachusetts). Through my experiences using Reiki, I discovered that I am an Intuitive Healer, so I followed my Reiki training with formal training in several other holistic modalities, including breathwork therapy, craniosacral therapy, meditation, creative visualization and other mind-body medicine techniques. This gives me many tools to supplement my intuitive gifts. Reiki is my favorite technique. I find its greatest benefit is in helping people rediscover a sense of peace and joy in their lives, which I believe is my life's purpose or mission.
It is my opinion that all skilled and gifted artists, whether they are plastic surgeons, ministers, painters, or holistic healers, deserve to be rewarded for sharing their gifts with the world. Giving one's gift away does not make the gift more valuable, or the person more spiritual -- it simply makes the gift more available to people who cannot afford to pay. For many years I did Reiki free of charge because of the lack of scientific evidence to support any type of health claims. I knew that with the "M.D." after my name, clients would assume Reiki has physical health benefits. Even today, this is not known. However, in the past eleven years, the connection between stress and physical health has been well established, and reiki is a good stress management tool. After careful consideration, I now charge a reasonable fee for my time, skills, knowledge and spiritual gifts."
